Do You Know A ‘Leading Light’ in Road Safety
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is calling on people nationwide to nominate ‘Leading Lights’ in road safety as part of the 2010 ‘Leading Lights in Road Safety’ Awards. The awards recognise the extraordinary contribution of people across Ireland to make road use safer for everyone. The call for entries opens this today Monday 23rd August and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Dublin Castle on Wednesday 13th October. Plan for 2,000km national cycle-path network unveiled
PLANS FOR a 2,000km national network of cycle paths connecting cities and major town across the Republic have been drafted by the National Roads Authority.

Shortlisted bids for Smarter Travels Areas Stage 1 available
11 areas have been shortlisted to progress to Stage 2 of the Smarter Travel Areas Competition. The 11 areas will now compete to bid for funding of up to €50 million over 5 years to transform them into world class SmarterTravel demonstration zones.
The 11 shortlisted areas are:

- Galway Metropolitan Area
- Kilkenny City

INTERNATIONAL CYCLING EVENT LAUNCHED IN IRELAND
The Sky Ride Etape Hibernia to attract thousands of cyclists to County Clare
Ireland is set to become home to an annual international cycling event organised by the world’s largest sports, entertainment and media company.
IMG today, in partnership with Sky, Fáilte Ireland, Shannon Development, the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau, Clare County Council, announced details of the country’s first closed road cycle event.
The Sky Ride Etape Hibernia will take place over an 80-mile (approx) course in scenic County Clare on Sunday, August 22nd 2010.
