Cyclist.ie – the Irish Cycling Advocacy Network is the umbrella group of cycle campaigning and advocacy groups in Ireland. It was formed in 2008 to combine the strengths of local groups, many of whom have been campaigning since the 1990s to improve cycling conditions and make our towns and cities more liveable.
Cyclist.ie is the member for the island of Ireland of the European Cyclists’ Federation, which itself is part of the World Cycling Alliance. Cyclist.ie is a member of The Wheel, Ireland’s national association for community, voluntary and charitable organisations and also a member of the Healthy Ireland Council. It has strategic alliances with An Taisce – the National Trust for Ireland, Green Schools Ireland, Love 30 and Cycling Ireland. It is also an active member of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition.
Cyclist.ie is the body recognised by government departments and agencies for consultation about the full breadth of cycling safety and promotion issues. It liaises closely with many government departments and agencies – e.g. Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, National Transport Authority, Road Safety Authority, An Garda Síochána etc. It collaborates with other like minded bodies seeking healthy and safe streets – e.g. Irish Heart Foundation, Irish Pedestrian Network, Irish Doctors for the Environment, I Bike Dublin etc.
Cyclist.ie adopted its outline strategy at its Council meeting held on Saturday 5th October 2019 in The Tailors’ Hall, Back Lane, Dublin 8. This can be read at https://cyclist.ie/organisation/vision-mission-aims/.
